Richard J. Lavezzo, of Truckee, died Monday, Jan. 21 of complications from injuries suffered during a motocross accident in Marysville, Calif. He was 46.
Rich had raced motocross since he was a teenager. He loved the sport so much that he shared his love and knowledge of the the sport with his son Tony, who has also been racing since a young age.
Rich was a regular participant in the northern California and northern Nevada MX West Motocross races. The organizers are planning a benefit race in Rich’s memory, time and place to be announced. Rich had been a truck driver all of his adult life and took great pride in his work. His most recent job was with the Rainbow Rock in Reno.
Rich was a great father, life partner and brother. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Lavezzo and brother, David Lavezzo. He is survived by his fiancZ, Lorraine Monfries, son Tony Lavezzo, mother Del Lavezzo, sisters Barbara Grahn and Sue Evans and brothers Mike and Robert Lavezzo.
A service honoring Rich’s memory was held Jan. 26 in Danville, Calif. A local memorial service will be held Tuesday, Feb. 5 from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at the Truckee Rec Center.

Gladys L. Thorwaldsen passed away at her home on Tuesday, Jan. 29. Born April 15, 1917 in Alameda, Calif., she moved to Los Angeles to marry Nick I. Thorwaldsen in 1937 and moved to the Tahoe/Truckee area in 1956.
Gladys was a loving caregiver and worked for 24 years at Tahoe Forest Hospital from 1960 to 1984. Her open heart, wit and love of life endeared her to everyone. She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, gardener, traveler and will be missed by all who knew her. Her family was at her bedside with her when she entered into God’s kingdom to join her beloved husband Nick.
She is survived by daughters Mary Buster of Sacramento and Rondi Rembert and her husband Stephen of Truckee and two grandchildren, Trenton Nicholas Rembert and Elizabeth Louise Rembert, both of Truckee.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Mountains Methodist Church with a reception following at the High Sierra Senior Center, 10040 Estates Drive, at noon.
Her final resting place will be at the Masonic Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Reno.
