One-Stop Business & Career Center to reopen in Truckee

Special to the Sun

TRUCKEE, Calif. – The new One-Stop Business & Career Center operator and several agencies banded together to reopen the Joseph Center office on Levon Avenue in Truckee.”Reestablishing an effective presence in Truckee has been a priority,” said Alison Lehman, director, Nevada County Department of Social Services. “We look forward to providing an array of services with a focus on employment as well as information and referrals to a wide array of community resources.”Once staffed, the Center will provide assistance to individuals and groups. Clients will be able to create resumes, search jobs online, practice interview skills, create a job search plan, understand the labor market and be aware of opportunities for internships, on-the-job trainings and special programs offered under specific grants. The goal is to have businesses post job openings and create a hub connecting job seekers to businesses seeking talent. Several agencies contributed resources to enable the Center to reopen including the County of Nevada, Department of Social Services; CalWORKs Public Authority; Sierra Nevada Regional Department of Child Support Services and the One-Stop Business and Career Center.”Services to Nevada County residents will be more complete with the reopening of a resource like the Career Center,” said Kathy Schmitz, CEO of the Job Training Center, who took over operations of the program last March. “Both job seekers and businesses will have a local tool to access and gain assistance. We appreciate the contribution made by all of the agencies involved to make this happen.”The Center will be open at the Joseph Center, 10075 Levon Ave., Truckee, five days a week, 20 hours per week. The One-Stop Business & Career Center seeks a part-time career center advisor previous to reopening. Visit http://www.nevadacountyonestop.org. The Center hopes to set up interviews for the position over the next two weeks. “This is a great opportunity for someone who is knowledgeable about job search strategies, interviewing and coaching and is familiar with local resources to join our team,” said Schmitz.- Submitted to aedgett@sierrasun.com
