Opinion: Irresponsible, lazy Truckee dog owners hurting our environment

I took my dog, Marni, to the Legacy Trail the other day. I entered the trail at the pedestrian bridge at the end of East River Street.

It was a 50 degree, gorgeous, sunny day. The Truckee Rive was roaring, something I have not seen for 4 years. I was in a good mood.

However, this mood was quickly shattered as I entered the trail itself after crossing the pedestrian bridge. Starting at the bridge intersection and continuing toward the 267 bridge for a 10th of a mile, I encountered 89 (OK I'm a Virgo) individual piles of dog poop, easily identifiable on the white snow.

Note that where the bridge intersects the trail, there is a dog poop pickup bag dispenser and a trash container.

I was disgusted. Irresponsible, lazy dog owners hurt the rest of the dog owner community. Shame on you! And you know who you are.

And as a dog owner, I was embarrassed. I was projecting what non-dog lovers must think as they try to enjoy the Trail. I can totally understand if a movement is started to ban all dogs from the trail.

BTW: I have witnessed the same modus operandi in the Martis Valley: (1) On the road to the glider port and campground north of 267; and (2) The Martis Creek Trail south of 267.
