Opinion: Republicans part of the gridlock problem in Washington

I would like to comment on the Dec. 23 opinion piece titled “Are all Muslims terror threats in America?” by Jim Clark (an official of the Nevada GOP according to the byline at the end of the article).

To his credit, Mr. Clark apparently answers that all Muslims are NOT terror threats and apparently agrees with Hillary Clinton that Donald Trump’s proposal to ban all Muslims from the U.S. “might be helping ISIS to recruit and radicalize.”

I would disagree with Mr. Clark’s assertion that President Obama has not tried to put together an effective Arab coalition to oppose and fight ISIS. The Arab states he mentions appear to shrink from this responsibility in order to deal with their own priorities in the region, not due to any lack of effort or skill on the part of Mr. Obama or Secretary of State Kerry.

It is Mr. Clark’s last statement that reveals that his bias, however: “Šcaution is in order until an adult moves into the White House.” The refusal to work with or compromise with President Obama is more important to the Republican establishment than actually doing anything productive in Washington. Non-serious slander of Mr. Obama is a typical tactic of this group.

Mr. Clark as a member of the local Republican leadership (president of Republican Advocates, served on the Washoe and Nevada GOP Central Committees) is therefore a participant in promoting the gridlock in Washington.

It’s hard for me to fathom that anyone who has watched the Republican debates to suggest that these “presidential wannabes,” as Mr. Clark calls them, are the “adults” who have the foreign policy or political credentials to lead this country.
