Opinion: Responding to Mr. Abel’s criticisms last week

Last week in the Bonanza, in a letter to the editor titled, “Do not vote for Horan, Morris for IVGID Board,” Michael Abel, a person I do not know and who has never bothered to contact me personally and who knows nothing about me, saw fit to try and hit low against me.

His nasty rhetoric is something a civil society could well do without.

Yes, it is the case that currently I rent. Thank goodness Mr. Abel cannot make laws against renting. Mr. Abel also goes on to speculate that I do not contribute to society and do not care about my community.

As an employer of over 35 people, creating more jobs every day, paying all taxes, fees and licenses, I would happily debate Mr. Abel on who contributes more to, and cares more about, our society.

I have heard from many in the community that Mr. Abel is well-known for his unfounded, incendiary and at-times plainly wrong comments. So my offer to him is this: If he would take the time to actually know me and not hide behind his ill-founded letter to the editor, he would find me to be a very capable, caring and strong individual with high integrity and worthy to become a trustee of IVGID.
