Opinion: Vote for Wallace, Terry and Stephens for airport board
November 1, 2016
Today, I am reflecting on how lucky I am to have called Tahoe/Truckee home for the past 16 years. I am packing my bags to deepen my work and life in Latin America, but not without a lot of heartache. I will be back — hopefully regularly — but I recognize that it is often really hard to "go home again."
That is because Tahoe/Truckee could change dramatically — and very quickly — with poor policies and decision-makers who are not looking out for the long term. I don't want to come back to find Martis full of new elite boxy airport hangers. I don't want to visit and be overwhelmed by the noise and annoyance from a huge jump in flights driven by more wealthy gated communities.
I do hope that when I next visit, the Tahoe helipad is actively helping residents with medical emergencies. I do hope that residents and visitors alike find joy in the new pool complex, trails and the other amenities that the airport contributes to. I do hope that the inevitable fires that will threaten this beautiful area can be controlled thanks to the strong fire responders and facilities at the airport.
So even though I am leaving, I have a vision for the future of our mountain home and recognize the value of experienced candidates who have already done so much to enhance this community: Lisa Wallace, Andrew Terry and Rick Stephens!
Please join me in voting for them for the Truckee Tahoe Airport District to ensure that the airport continues to respond to the whole community, and that returning visitors can sigh deeply and feel at home again.
