Opinion: We’d be fortunate to have Robert Olmer as IVGID trustee
November 3, 2016
It saddens me that a part-time resident, Chuck Otto, would attack IVGID Candidate Robert Olmer in the Oct. 27 Bonanza letter, "Do not vote for Miller, Olmer in IVGID board race," without any basis in fact.
Mr. Otto has never spoken with Mr. Olmer and/or evaluated his positions on the major issues. Instead, he relies on rumor and innuendo to smear the character of the most qualified candidate to ever seek this elective office. This is just plain wrong!
In spring 2012, Robert Olmer reached out and invited me and other Trustee Candidates to meet with more than 19 top IVGID Managers to discuss their views on the current direction and the future of our District. During these discussions, Robert impressed me with his business acumen, intelligence, common sense and passion for our community.
Robert is determined to keep our beaches exclusive and pledged to support voter elections for all bonding along with independent surveys of all parcel owners.
He's livid, as most are, about the Waste Management contract that trustees Phil Horan and Jim Hammerel negotiated in subcommittee that does not adhere to trash collection best practices, and most importantly the necessary protection of wildlife.
Robert has committed to fixing this and making it a priority. His hospitality and ski resort management experience is crucial to the evaluation of all phases of the Diamond Peak Master Plan. He would be the only Trustee ever to have this type of experience.

Robert Olmer was an active volunteer member of the Diamond Peak Steering Committee and has attended many IVGID Board Meetings over the past 4 years. After trustees limited public comment at Board meetings, Robert, like many community members, have chosen to watch meetings on Livestream.
If elected, he is committed to returning the "public's voice" and participation at our public meetings.
