Peace be with you | Nominate your choice for the Truckee Tahoe Peace Award
August 28, 2012
TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; As a part of the Truckee Tahoe Peace Project’s mission to bring awareness to peace in personal lives, family, community and the world, they are introducing for the very first time, the Truckee Tahoe Peace Award.
By doing this, TTPP intends to publicly recognize, commend and thank an individual. The award should go to the person who best represents the spirit of peace in the community through their thoughts and actions.
This is the first award of its kind in the community. By awarding this title to a community member, an example will be evident of how each and every one of us has the power to make a change and bring peace into their own life and the lives of others.
The person does not need to meet any specific criteria, but should be someone who you believe brings peace to others whether it is on a personal, community or global level. This person will be selected by you, the public, who will nominate the individual they consider best qualifies, and the person with the most nominations will receive the award.
The winner will be presented with the Award at the Truckee Tahoe Peace Day Celebration in the Regional Park on Sept. 21 and will be notified ahead of time. This is an exciting opportunity to recognize and reward those who make a difference.

The International Peace Day movement began 30 years ago and, based on the vision of independent documentary filmmaker Jeremy Gilley, the movement has gained significant momentum during the last decade. In the late 1990s Gilley documented his meetings with leaders and community members across the world to discuss an official day of peace. In 2001 all of the United Nations member states voted to adopt an annual day of ceasefire and non-violence to coincide with the International Day of Peace, Sept. 21.
