Pioneering astronaut Col. Eileen Collins to speak in Incline
August 23, 2007
Sierra Nevada College is pleased to announce it will be hosting the 2007 Siebens Binz-Tahoe Forum on Wednesday, Aug. 29, which will showcase keynote speaker Colonel Eileen M. Collins. The 2007 Siebens Binz-Tahoe Forum continues SNC’s decade-long tradition of bringing high-profile speakers to the community.
Colonel Collins, who has been featured on Leno and Letterman, is the first woman to pilot and command an American spacecraft, and has led an inspiring life of adventure, leadership, and achievement. For her final mission she commanded Space Shuttle Discovery’s historic “Return to Flight” mission, NASA’s first manned flight following the February 2003 loss of the Shuttle Columbia. Recognized as one of America’s most admired women, she is now sharing her experiences as a test pilot, astronaut, and space flight commander with audiences around the world.
Collins will be discussing the leadership and personal qualities necessary for success and will also share how her career as an astronaut took shape-from her early years in the Air Force to becoming the first woman to command a shuttle mission. Her talk will include projections on the future of NASA and on its ability to focus on exciting new space ventures. She will also discuss key factors for successful leadership, including dealing with people and coping with mistakes, safety, and creative management.
This event is free and open to the public and will take place at 4 p.m. on the main floor of the Prim Library. RSVP at (775)831-1314, ext. 7422, or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
