Pumpkin spice cookies take on store bought any day

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; I just read an excerpt from Martha Stewart’s daughter’s new book, and#8220;Whateverland.and#8221; In it, Alexis Stewart recalls her mother giving out apples (not even caramel apples!) and pennies to the neighborhood kids. What a jip! Man, I thought it was bad when the Minfords (my neighbors on the right) gave out boxes of raisins. I couldn’t trade out those raisins for anything. Even my 5-year-old brother (yes, I was 15, for those who know my family and are doing the math) wouldn’t cough up a Sweet Tart for a box of raisins. Talk about an and#8220;I got a rockand#8221; moment! Whew. Deep breath Simone. It was a long time agoand#8230;
The good news is homemade on Halloween does not have to play second fiddle to store bought. Following is a recipe for super easy hand-outs you may just decide to keep for your own consumption.
Pumpkin Spice Cookies
One box of Duncan Hines Spice cake mix
1 cup pumpkin puree

1/2 stick (1/4 cup) butter
Mix all ingredients. Drop about two tablespoons of dough for each cookie, two inches apart, on lightly greased (sprayed) cookie sheet and bake at 350° for 10-12 minutes. Cool and drizzle with cinnamon glaze.
2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon or to taste
3 Tbls. milk
1 Tbls. melted butter
1 tsp. vanilla
Mix together sugar and cinnamon, add milk, butter and vanilla. Drizzle over cooled cookies using a fork.
