Second Annual Truckee RibFest set for Father’s Day

Special to the Sun

TRUCKEE, Calif. – A broad cross-section of the regional culinary scene will throw down the competitive gauntlet at the second annual Truckee RibFest slated for Father’s Day, June 19, 1-6 p.m. at Citizens Bank Plaza. Those participating in this good-natured – and certainly tasty – grudge match include Men Wielding Fire Fine Food Catering, PlumpJack Cafe, Sunnyside Restaurant, Smokey’s Kitchen, Char Pit, Six Peaks Grille, and Truckee Pizza, which will offer some children-friendly options.

“By nature, ribs are an equal opportunity kind of food,” said event chair Brinn Talbot Wellise, president of Switchback PR + Marketing, Inc. “Everyone loves ribs so it stands to reason that many of the area’s favorite restaurants offer their own unique renditions of the dish. We are thrilled these talented chefs have thrown their hats into the ring this year.”

This fun and casual foodie event will offer folks a chance to sample delicious ribs prepared by the best chefs in the area – a perfect afternoon outing for hungry dads and their families.

Last year an estimated 500 people got their oink on at the inaugural event. This year, event organizer Switchback PR + Marketing, Inc. plans to reprise the tasty event formula, adding a few tweaks that will please both vendors and attendees.

Event organizers have lined up a number of excellent caterers and restaurants that will offer their own creative variations on ribs. The event will feature judging by industry professionals for best ribs in addition to a People’s Choice award.

A beer garden, children’s activity area, free entertainment and more will round out the festivities.

Truckee High School Boosters Club was selected to be the event’s non-profit beneficiary. Truckee Boosters supports clubs and athletics at Truckee High through fundraising and volunteer support.

Adult admission is $12 in advance and $15 on the day of the event. Admission includes entry, plus two food tickets. Each two-rib sampler costs two tickets. Tasty sides can be purchased for one ticket. Admission for children 12 and under is $10 in advance and $12 on the day of the event. Children’s tickets include entry, access to a fun activity center, plus one special food ticket that can be redeemed for hot dogs, pizza and other kid-friendly options. And for the many folks who won’t be satisfied with just one two-rib sampler, additional food tickets are available at $5 for two tickets.

For more information or tickets visit http://www.truckeeribfest.com; a nominal $3 service fee applies for online ticket sales. Those who order advanced tickets online will receive a complimentary Truckee RibFest beer mug at the event (first come first served).
