TRUCKEE andamp;#8212;Sierra Expeditionary Learning School is thrilled to have opened their doors to 64 K-fifth grade students. The grand opening ceremony was held at 9:30 a.m., Aug. 25 outside of our school. We would like to thank those who have helped our dream become a reality.Parent involvement has been a driving force from the beginning. We are grateful to those who participated in early meetings to help create the vision for our school, the parents and teachers who expressed support at our public hearing before the TTUSD school board, those who came to our information nights, and parents who have spent summer evenings scrubbing, painting, moving, and building our play area at the portables at Sierra Mountain Community Education Center. The collaboration of the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District has been invaluable. We appreciate the advice and help of the entire administrative team andamp;#8212; from the EL, special education, food service, and transportation experts to John Britto and the facilities team. We’d particularly like to thank Steve Jennings, Steve Dickinson, and all of the hardworking TTUSD Board of Trustees, who give countless hours of their time for the children in our community. Although we are in lean economic times, we heard repeatedly from local businesses and community members, andamp;#8220;If it’s for the children of our community, I’ll help.andamp;#8221; We’d like to thank those who have donated goods, services, time, and/or money to help us get started, find entire list online at sierrasun.com.
