Social Scene | and#8216;To go or not to go’ was the question

Some things in life can never be replicated: Like Truckee’s longtime town bard. And so it was a heavy hearted bon voyage send-off for Steve Coniglio, a.k.a. Truckee’s Town Bard, and his wife Andi who are relocating down the hill. More than 125 Truckee and North Tahoe residents gathered at the Old Rec Center recently to bid adieu to the couple in true Truckee style.
Actively involved residents in Truckee for more than 20 years, the couple will be sorely missed. Steve is best known for his tongue-in-cheek Shakespearean style soliloquies performed at such events as the Truckee Follies, the Cadillac Ball, and memorials. Andi, manager of the Truckee Surgery Center, will be accepting a new position as manager of the OR at the Sonora Regional Medical Center. Andi has also performed around the area dancing and singing in various local shows such as the Truckee Follies and The Nutcracker.
Keeping with Truckee tradition, Jim Porter and Jim Simon presided over the gathering, providing their customary witty barbs and quick repartee. Guests joined in the and#8220;roastand#8221; by recounting stories about Steve and Andi and#8212; some of which are just not fit for print in a family newspaper! The highlight of the evening’s entertainment was a walk-on by Ted Owens impersonating and#8220;The Town Bardand#8221; himself, attired in black tights, sorrels and long locks. The theme of his soliloquy was and#8220;To go or not to go, that is the question …and#8221;
Truckee doyenne Stefanie Olivieri presented Steve and Andi with a farewell gift of a framed copy of an 1870’s The Truckee Republican, Truckee’s original newspaper, honoring them for all they have contributed to the Truckee community.
