Social Scene: Elegant Affair fundraiser for North Tahoe schools kicks off holiday season
November 24, 2010
TAHOE CITY, Calif. and#8212; Less is more. There were less people at this year’s Elegant Affair at the Boatworks in Tahoe City Friday, Nov. 19. But there was more room to mix and mingle, more delicious morsels to taste, and of course, more wine for all to sip. A triple whammy affected this year’s attendance: Whether it was the first snowy day of our November Nostrum storm, locals getting an early start on their Thanksgiving travel, or the repercussions of a sluggish economy on everyone’s wallet, there were about 250 guests swirling around the two-story enclosed shopping center that traditionally welcomes a larger number of elegantly attired guests.
The Elegant Affair, in its 34th year, is a steadfast Tahoe City tradition. Handed over a few years ago to the North Tahoe Booster Club from the now defunct Tahoe City Soroptimist Club, proceeds from the very social food and wine event help promote and support North Tahoe Laker athletic programs for the middle and high schools. The club’s motto is a worthwhile one: and#8220;Good sports build good students build good citizensand#8221;.
Lisa Adams, owner of The Store in Tahoe City, worked industriously as this year’s chairperson with her committee consisting of Suzan Paschall, Elizabeth Ransom, Deanna Myers, Maurina Jack, Cindy Robbins and Jeff Oxandaboure. Twenty-eight wineries, 27 restaurants and two breweries participated with samplings for all to enjoy. A silent auction supplemented the evening’s bottom line.
After the event everyone headed over to nearby Wolfdale’s for an after party featuring live music by the Tres Stone band.
Some of those tres elegante guests included Julie and David Conover, Jim Kunkle, Heidi Shaugnessey, Jimalou and Gary Davis, Cathy Dangler, Linda and Mark Moore, Tim Dalmau, Maurine and Tom Turner, Garry and#8220;Kiwiand#8221; Moore, Michele DeBraganca and Ken Volz, Sue and Troy Caldwell, Kristen and Kate Morgan, Morgahn Grey, Tim Bogardus, Laurie and Nelson O’Shaughnessy, Rhonda Evans and Paulo, Sandy Kelly, Mitch Packard and Linda Tripp Packard, Dorothy Prowell and her daughter Tricia, Ralph (Rocket) Bertoli, and Di Dorsa and Bruce Ells.
