Social Scene | ‘To go or not to go’ was the question
March 25, 2010
Some things in life can never be replicated: Like Truckee’s longtime town bard. And so it was a heavy hearted bon voyage send-off for Steve Coniglio, a.k.a. Truckee’s Town Bard, and his wife Andi who are relocating down the hill. More than 125 Truckee and North Tahoe residents gathered at the Old Rec Center recently to bid adieu to the couple in true Truckee style.
Actively involved residents in Truckee for more than 20 years, the couple will be sorely missed. Steve is best known for his tongue-in-cheek Shakespearean style soliloquies performed at such events as the Truckee Follies, the Cadillac Ball, and memorials. Andi, manager of the Truckee Surgery Center, will be accepting a new position as manager of the OR at the Sonora Regional Medical Center. Andi has also performed around the area dancing and singing in various local shows such as the Truckee Follies and The Nutcracker.
Keeping with Truckee tradition, Jim Porter and Jim Simon presided over the gathering, providing their customary witty barbs and quick repartee. Guests joined in the “roast” by recounting stories about Steve and Andi – some of which are just not fit for print in a family newspaper! The highlight of the evening’s entertainment was a walk-on by Ted Owens impersonating “The Town Bard” himself, attired in black tights, sorrels and long locks. The theme of his soliloquy was “To go or not to go, that is the question …”
Truckee doyenne Stefanie Olivieri presented Steve and Andi with a farewell gift of a framed copy of an 1870’s The Truckee Republican, Truckee’s original newspaper, honoring them for all they have contributed to the Truckee community.
Some of those joining in the bittersweet fun were Marianne and Jim Porter, Linda and Dave Brown, Joan and Cliff Hartwell, Mary Klemmer-Blocher and Alan Blocher, Peggy Jones, Leah Feltenstein, Jenny Garcia, Jim Dill, Martha and Kevin Murphy, Shelley and Joe McGinity, Paquita Bath and Allen Rosenfeld, Carole Sesko and Richard Anderson, Rachel and Andy Kirby-Rost, Viv from Unique Boutique, Jean Brooks, Laura and Mike Ryan, Ted Owens, Tom Ballou, Mitch Clarin, Patti and Ron Florian, Richard Blair, Penny and Bob Fink, Kathleen Eagan and Jim Duffy, May and Ed Candler, Ruth Cross, Mary Lou Austin, Barbara Green, Pete Bansen, Stefanie Olivieri, Pat Callahan, Carol and Rusty Pauli, Amora Higbee, Donna and Eric Sundale, Chris and Andy Otto, Pam Rathmann and John McLaughlin, Jim Simon, Lisa Dobey and Debbie Cole, Maia Schneider and Mike Tatarek, Sandy and Mike Horn, Kathy Bender, Michael Graham, Cindy Morgan, Breeze Cross, Kathy and Nelson VanGundy, Steve Randall, Tom Combs, Debbie White, Diane and Daniel Inverson, Gail Shady, and Sue and Ron Gaunt.
