Special Thanks to our newly retired Tahoe-Truckee teachers
November 10, 2014
On Wednesday, 11 newly retired teachers will be invited to a "Don't Go Back to School" Retirement Brunch at Tofanelli's in Grass Valley by the California Retired Teachers Association, Division 51. It is free. We would like to honor these educators for their many years of service.
Even after retiring, many teachers continue to serve in their communities. For example, Patricia Gibbons-Johnson has served on the School Board for TTUSD for many years, and stepped in again after a resignation occurred.
Jane Loomis volunteers with the Truckee Community Christmas. Sharon Filardo has served as the president of the Tahoe League for Charity, which provides scholarships to young people, among other things. Gertrude Lesem chairs the fundraiser for the Historical Society which funds the Gatekeeper's Museum in Tahoe City.
Denny Lott does recycling for the Make Malaria History campaign of the Truckee Lutheran Presbyterian Church. It serves the people of East Africa in the global community.
Thank you, retired teachers, all. The economic contribution from all these volunteer hours is tremendous. Retired teachers deserve to be honored, and, through this letter, we hope to do so.
