North Tahoe Arts is pleased to announce a free children’s event Saturday, June 27, at noon. Kids ART invites children of all ages to paint with local artist Deb Rose, providing fun and creative activities in the loft. Truckee Artist Deb Rose currently has a solo show, and#8220;Nouveau Page,and#8221; at NTA, which features a variety of mixed media, oils, acrylics, and textural composites. and#8220;Art doesn’t have to be inaccessible,and#8221; says Deb, and#8220;It should move you, fill you with wonder and tantalize your senses like a warm summer wind or the smell of apples in the fall.and#8221;

Learn all about the life of butterflies. Tuesday, June 30, guided hike at 10:30 a.m. Meet at the flagpole. Explore the natural world. Suitable for age 7 and up. Qualifies for Junior Ranger credit. Wednesday, July 1, Junior Rangers (ages 7 and#8211; 12) and#8220;Bug Huntand#8221; at 10 a.m. Meet at the Pioneer Monument. How many bugs can you find? Friday, July 3, Junior Rangers (ages 7 and#8211; 12) and#8220;Lunch with the Rangerand#8221; at 11:30 a.m. Meet at the flagpole. Bring a backpack, healthy lunch, bandana (if you have one), water and a hat. Saturday, July 4, Donner Party History walks at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Meet at the flagpole. Historian Gayle Green walks to the Donner Party cabin sites to discuss the tragic events of 1846-47. Every day: campers get in free at the Emigrant Trail Museum.
Enjoy the music of Jerry Garcia played by some incredibly talented musicians and his long time band mate, Melvin Seals Saturday, June 27 at the Truckee Regional Park Amphitheater. The Truckee Tahoe Community Foundation Queen of Hearts Women’s Fund is sponsoring the second annual and#8220;Senior Spring Cleaningand#8221; for Truckee seniors on Sunday, June 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Truckee Senior Apartments located at 10040 Estates Dr., Truckee.
This is a very valued service to members of the community who cannot physically clean on a regular basis and/or cannot afford cleaning services. Volunteer activities include cleaning, vacuuming, dusting, window washing, beautifying porches, and moving furniture.

Cleaning supplies will be provided by the Queen of Hearts Fund through local donations and cash contributions. Any and all donations of cleaning materials, gardening tools and plants are welcome. The free music series will begin at the Kings Beach State Recreation Area in Kings Beach Thursday, July 2. The concerts, including bands like Izabella, will be held behind the playground. IVGID’s Championship and Mountain Golf courses are partnering with Pet Network to save the lives of animals in our community that are in need. From now until September from 2 to 4 p.m. every Tuesday a portion of the green fees will be donated to Pet Network.

The Village at Northstar hosts an Arts and Crafts Festival over the Fourth of July holiday weekend. This free event will feature more than 50 talented artists displaying a wide variety of handmade goods including oil paintings, ceramic vessels, jewelry and much more from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, July 3, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 4, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 5.
The Monthly Pancake Breakfast fundraiser to benefit the Senior Meals program and the Meals on Wheels will be held on July 5 from 8 to 11:30 a.m. in the dining room of the Truckee Donner Senior Apartments, 10040 Estates Dr. in Truckee. This month’s sponsor is the P.E.O. Sorority (Philanthropic Educational Organization). Open to everyone! Adults $7, children $3. Arrive early!
Artists interested in exhibiting at North Tahoe ARTS in 2010 are encouraged to call the NTA office for an application or visit northtahoearts.com. Artists working in all mediums will be considered. Contemporary work as well as landscapes, still lifes, portrait artists, potters, jewelers, wood turners, poetry, wall art, three-dimensional art and sculpture submissions are encouraged. All applicants will be required to submit images of artwork in jpg format on CDs along with the application and a fee of $20. Deadline for submissions is July 31.
