The ReUse People begin operations in the Central Valley and Sierra areas
July 15, 2010
TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; The ReUse People (TRP) promotes the deconstruction, or careful dismantling, and reuse of buildings or partial buildings that would normally be demolished and thrown in the landfill. Construction and demolition debris account for approximately 40 percent of the materials currently occupying landfill space and#8212; the single largest contributing source, as compared to 11 percent household and 13 percent commercial. Obviously, deconstruction is more expensive than demolition, so the vehicle that makes it possible and many times even economically advantageous, is the sizable tax deduction through the donation of their salvaged building materials to TRP.
TRP has also partnered with the Sacramento Regional Conservation Corps on a new warehouse for the resale of salvaged building materials that is open to the general public, located at 6350 27th St, Sacramento. Items generally sell at 15-50 percent of retail. The warehouse accepts donations of building materials and can arrange for pick-up of your items within the Valley/Sierra area, sometimes free of charge on a case by case basis. Items accepted include: appliances, doors, windows, cabinets, flooring, lumber, hardware, some landscaping materials. Please call for specific accepted donations at (916) 399-8900.
