Truckee girl awarded Girl Scoutsand#8217; highest honor

RENO, Nev. and#8212; Victoria Vajgrt, a Truckee High School student and incredible Girl Scout, has dedicated more than 200 hours of community service creating and coordinating a local healthy lifestyles fair, earning her the Girl Scout Gold Award: The single most demanding award and highest honor a Girl Scout can achieve.
This award is not an easy accomplishment. Only five percent of Girl Scouts nationally receive a Gold Award. Each girl must complete three interest project awards, log 30 hours in a leadership role and 40 hours related to career exploration before they even start their main service project. and#8220;Going for the Goldand#8221; encompasses leadership skills, organizational skills and sense of community and commitment that set the foundation for a lifetime of active citizenship.
Vajgrt was concerned about the health of the people in her community and wanted to make sure families had the information needed to lead a healthier lifestyle. She focused on nutrition, using local experts to help her complete her project, and#8220;Nutrition in Childrenand#8217;s Lifestyles.and#8221;
Victoria coordinated a local healthy lifestyles fair for the Truckee area that not only informed attendees about healthy nutrition for children, but also included other local healthy lifestyle resources for all ages. In addition, she worked closely with Truckeeand#8217;s Childrenand#8217;s Center to have healthy lifestyle education and resources available at the center.
Vajgrt received her Gold Award at ceremony Saturday, May 7, 2010, at the Atlantis Casino, Resort, Spa in Reno, Nev.
