Truckee Relay For Life chairperson announced

The 4th annual American Cancer Societyandamp;#8217;s Relay For Life (RFL) of Truckee will be held July 17-18 at the Truckee High School Track. Thanks to everyone who participated and/or contributed in the 2009 Truckee Relay. It was a huge success andamp;#8212; 24 teams participated honoring 81 survivors, with 850 luminaria bags lighting the track in memory and honor of those who battled cancer. The event raised more than $60,000.Ruth Geresy, past-chair of Truckeeandamp;#8217;s Relay For Life is excited to announce that Zoe Richards of Truckee will serve as this yearandamp;#8217;s RFL Chairperson. Richards graduated from Truckee High School in 2005 and went on to CSU, Long Beach and obtained a degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies with a Certificate in Nonprofit and Volunteer Management. She has participated in Relays in Long Beach and Truckee and was instrumental in forming the Colleges Against Cancer program at CSU, Long Beach. Currently, Richards is working for the Family Resource Center in Truckee in an America-Corp position. andamp;#8220;Zoe is a perfect fit to assume the role of Chair for Truckeeandamp;#8217;s Relay as she is a Truckee native and no stranger to volunteer work. And, she has been participating in Relays for more years than Truckee has had one,andamp;#8221; explained Geresy.Several teams are returning this year and have already begun their fundraising through book, craft, bake and candle sales. A special thanks to: The Rotary Club of Truckee for a matching donation of $221 for the Bud Fish Memorial Tree Lighting Ceremony held in December, for a total donation of $442; Zanoandamp;#8217;s Family Italian andamp; Pizzeria for hosting the 2010 Relay For Life Kick Off Party, May 25 and Team In Spirit andamp;#8211; more than $1,300 was raised!Donandamp;#8217;t miss Truckeeandamp;#8217;s First Annual RibFest on Fatherandamp;#8217;s Day, Sunday, June 20 from noon to 4 p.m. at Citizenandamp;#8217;s Bank Plaza. A portion of those proceeds will go to Relay For Life.
