Than come to Slow Food Lake Tahoe’s orientation on Feb. 10 at 4 p.m. Located at Dragonfly Restaurant in Downtown Truckee, the monthly orientations, second Wednesdays each month, will be led by Billy McCullough, Dragonfly owner and chef and SFLT founding member, who will give a brief explanation about Slow Food USA and Slow Food Lake Tahoe. To raise money and awareness for athletes who have suffered a life-altering injury while pursuing their dream in the winter action sports community. Money has to go to bettering the life of any individual who may be injured: ie medical bills adaptive ski equipment, physical therapy, alternative healing methods. If you know a local Tahoe athlete who has been injured while pursuing their dream in the winter action sports community, High Fives Non Profit Foundation wants to help. The application process for the High Fives Scholarship Fund is open. Up to $7,500 is being awarded in 2010. Local yoga instructor Emily Williams will present a yoga class in the Tahoe XC yurt from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28. Stretch and expand yoga practice while warmed by a wood fire. The yoga class will focus on a blend of Ashtanga and Lyengar practices, and is suitable for all levels. The yurt is situated on the cross-country ski trail, a special and beautiful spot to practice yoga. After an invigorating session, head out the door and ski or snowshoe on a gentle trail in the full moon with longtime Tahoe XC instructor Tim Hauserman to the yellow hut, about 1 km away where hot drinks and the power of the moon await.
