Truckee Tahoe Community Announcements

Don’t miss the SOS (save open space) Glenshire Signature Clubhouse Fund Raising Event on Saturday, May 2, from 5 to 9 p.m. Always a great time. Dance to live music by many talented local musicians and enjoy dinner, Fifty Fifty Brewing beer, wine and more all for $20 per person. Children 0-10 are free. Many great raffle and auction items. Tickets: $20, available at Glenshire General Store, Cabonas and Between The Notes (also available at event, if not sold out). All proceeds will go toward continuing efforts to preserve valuable open space and wildlife corridors around the Glenshire/eastern Nevada county region. Visit http://www.sosglenshire.org for more details, and to join the wildlife sightings and letter writing projects.

The Tahoe Truckee Excellence in Education Foundation is offering its 2009 Golfing for Schools card. The transferable pass is only $400 and provides 18-holes of play at seven premiere North Tahoe and Truckee area golf courses.

Golf courses honoring the card include: Coyote Moon, Northstar-at-Tahoe, Old Brockway, Old Greenwood, Resort at Squaw Creek, Tahoe City and Tahoe Donner. Some restrictions do apply; see http://www.exined.org to purchase or for details. There are a limited number of passes available and they will be sold on a first come, first serve basis.

As a benefit for local students, Truckee and Glenshire Elementary School PTOs have come together for A-Deck-Affair, Friday, May 8, from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the River Ranch Restaurant and Lodge. The event will include casual food, music by local musician Neva and silent/live auctions.

“The community support has been amazing. Everyone is excited for a collaborative effort between the two elementary schools,” says Amanda Friedrichsen, co-chair of A-Deck-Affair. “Without continued fundraising efforts, many programs are likely to disappear and we need the community to help keep them alive,” adds Friedrichsen.

Tickets are available for $30 in advance at Smokey’s Kitchen, Glenshire General Store, Glenshire School and New Moon Natural Foods. All proceeds will go directly to the students. PTOs work to build a sense of community and enhance student’s learning in academics, athletics and the arts. In addition to hosting school-wide events, PTO monies traditionally provide cross-country ski equipment and trips, swimming lessons, assemblies, student performances, nutrition education, art docents, special tutoring services and field trips. And supplementing the amazing Special Friends counseling program.
