Truckee Tahoe Republican Women attend conference, announce meeting

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; Truckee Tahoe Republican Women Mavis Bowes, Carla Embertson and Olivia McCaffrey from the Gold Nugget Republican Women in Sierraville traveled to California State Republican Women Board meeting Feb. 3-5 in Manhattan Beach, Calif.

Bowes, board member on the National Charter Registry, said the meeting had top notch speakers such as Damon Dunn, who grew up in abject poverty, achieved honor roll in his Arlington, Texas, high school, and was awarded a scholarship to Standford University where he made academic and athletic awards. After an NFL career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he attended Harvard Business School for the NGFL Business Management and Entrepreneurial Program. Dunn was a 2010 California Secretary of State candidate and was recently appointed as a visiting Fellow in the Hoover Institution at Stanford University (visit http://www.damondunn.com).

More than 170 women attended the winter conference, according to Bowes. Affiliated with the National Federation of Republican Women, the California Federation of Republican Women is the largest all volunteer womenand#8217;s partisan political organization in the country (www.cfrw.org).

and#8220;I am just a peon, a little man on the totem pole. But at least I am, in fact, on the totem pole,and#8221; said Bowes of volunteerism.

Bowes invites interested women to the Truckee Tahoe Republican Women Federated first evening meeting Tuesday, Feb. 21 at the Glenshire club house, 6 p.m. Cost is $15 per person. Call 530-582-0249 for information.
