Truckee Tahoe School News andamp; Notes: Lakeside parents should attend meeting

At the brink of another wonderful Lake Tahoe summer break, local families may be focused on sunscreen and swimsuits rather than 2009-2010 school schedules and curriculum. However, before summer vacation plans diffuse our local population, the Tahoe Truckee Unified School District has scheduled two parent orientations that will address new configuration plans for the lakeside schools.An orientation meeting for parents of lakeside students in grades fourth through eighth is slated for Wednesday, June 24 at 6 p.m. in the North Tahoe High School auditorium. Parents of lakeside students grades ninth through 12 are encouraged to attend an orientation meeting on Thursday, June 25 at 6 p.m. at the NTHS auditorium. Before each of these orientation meetings at 4 p.m., the district is also hosting meetings for PTO, VIPS and ELAC representatives. School administrators, including Eileen Fahrner, Bill Frey, Teresa Rensch, Stephanie Welsh and Joanna Mitchell will be on hand to answer parents’ questions about the upcoming school year.andamp;#8220;On Wednesday, my hope is to alleviate parents’ concerns regarding the students attending a fourth through eighth grade school,andamp;#8221; explains principal Eileen Fahrner. andamp;#8220;We will discuss a typical day for their child, location of rooms, playground information, recess and lunch information. In addition, we’ll also address dress code, schedules, curriculum and extra curricular activities.andamp;#8221;Fahrner adds information not previously known will also be shared at the meeting.andamp;#8220;We should know who the teachers are going to be by that evening,andamp;#8221; Fahrner says. andamp;#8220;I am hearing from several parents that it would be comforting to know some familiar names.andamp;#8221;High school principal Bill Frey says he believes it is important for parents to attend these meetings.andamp;#8220;Our hope is to provide the most current information for lakeside students and parents,andamp;#8221; Frey says. andamp;#8220;This includes current bell schedules, office personnel and duties, and any new information that we can provide.andamp;#8221;
