I would like to give a andamp;#8220;big shout outandamp;#8221; to Joel Gressel of TIP Printing and Graphics, 12177 Business Park Drive in Truckee. He graciously printed the Information Cards for Youth in Trouble that have been distributed to law enforcement and public servants throughout Sierra, Nevada and Placer Counties. You will recognize one when you see one because the graphic says andamp;#8220;You Are Not Alone,andamp;#8221; and numerous phone numbers are given on the back. Thank you, too, to all the public servants who have chosen to carry these wallet-sized cards for distribution to minors they may meet in the course of their work. Kudos to all.andamp;#8212; Lynn Booth

The UC Berkeley Adventure Risk Challenge Program would like to thank the Tahoe/Truckee community for their support of our second annual Food for Thought Tamale Dinner. On March 13, more than 100 community members honored the voices of local youth andamp;#8212; Gabriel Marquez, Gaby Garcia, Wendy Olivas, Roxana Cabrera, Eddy Lopez, Daniel Mara and Zulema Medina andamp;#8212; who courageously shared their perspectives through digital stories on the importance of attending college, teen pregnancy, Latino involvement in Advanced Placement courses, personal identity, transportation issues, and domestic violence. Their stories are significant messages about the social fabric of our community and they provide insight to how we can work together to improve the place we all call home. The ARC program instills the values of service and stewardship through community involvement, and our model aims to transform our community through our youth by building the confidence and capacity of each and every participant. This event would not have been possible without the ARC participantsandamp;#8217; leadership, integrity, hard work and commitment to their community. This year the Tamale Dinner was an official event of the SnowFest! Celebration, and Roxana Cabrera, a graduate of our 2009 summer immersion, was crowned the 2010 SnowFest! Queen because she truly believes that if she embraces all of the opportunities presented to her, and if she works to create opportunities for others, she will have the power to transform the world in which we live. Finally, ARC also would like to thank the Garcia, Marquez, Oliveras, Olivas, and Mara families for cooking the delicious food at the dinner, as well as the Boys andamp; Girls Club, Fireside Pizza, Twenty-Two Bistro, the StartHaus, and IRIE Rafting for their contributions to the event. On behalf of the Tahoe Lake PTO, we would like to thank all parents who helped donate toward new cross-country ski equipment for the students. The students have already enjoyed many days on the new equipment! We would also like to send a special thank you out to the Scott family (Stan and Colleen) and the Gracey family (Ken and Mary Beth) for their very generous donations. Without your generosity, new equipment would not have been possible! Thank you to all our wonderful parents!andamp;#8212;Tahoe Lake PTO
