Truckee Tahoe Sunshine Letters

I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all of the volunteers who helped to clean our local Truckee Watershed on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010 and let them know their hard work has helped to make our streams, rivers, and lakes a better place for people to enjoy.

Several different areas in Truckee were chosen to be cleaned up including; Prosser Reservoir, Donner Creek, Trout Creek and several locations along the Truckee River. We estimated more than 2,000 lbs. of trash and debris was removed from the water and surrounding areas and I can assure you that our waters have never been as clean as they are today.

Our new chapter of Trout Unlimited has had a very successful first year with several completed projects under our belt including; Trout in the Classroom, Childrenand#8217;s Environmental Science Day, three separate clean up events, and we look forward to the years to come and working to preserve and protect our valuable but fragile fisheries.

If you are interested in helping out with future Trout Unlimited projects or would like to become a member of Trout Unlimited, I urge you to visit http://www.tu.org. On behalf of my fellow TU members and our local trout, I say thank you again for you efforts and support.

I would like to extend a hearfelt thank you to Candace Cable of Turning Point Tahoe and to Smokeyand#8217;s BBQ for making Hunter Yeiderand#8217;s 14th birthday the best! We weathered a pouring down rain fishing party on Donner Lake (congrats to Emily Harrington for catching the only fish), and then headed to Smokeyand#8217;s for pizza. Candace hosted the party, providing fishing poles, bringing stuff for the kids to make their own masks and helping to make it all wheelchair accessible. Ted the manager of Smokeyand#8217;s was so hospitable taking us all in and keeping the mood light and playful despite the rain. Many thanks to you both!

Fall is my favorite time of year. The lake is calm and free of speeding boats, the bustle of summer is behind us and the anticipation of a deep, prosperous winter is on the horizon.

This Fall it is especially nice thanks to the tremendous efforts of our local Cal Trans road construction crews. Because of these hardworking men and women the drives into Downtown Tahoe City from the north and east are fantastically smooth. The traffic delays of the last month or so were well worth it!

With the cold months fast approaching and thousands of visitors about to descend on the region for winter fun we are proud to see such high quality work completed on our local highway system. Not only does the project help control erosion and protect the water quality of the lake and river, it helps make our community look polished, clean and vibrant.

On behalf of the Tahoe City Downtown Association Board of Directors and its 100-plus business and property owner members, a heart-felt thank you to the workers, managers, executives and everyone involved in making the Highway 89 and 28 repaving and water quality projects a success!

SOS Glenshire wants to thank everyone who participated in their end of summer Annual Clubhouse Fundraiser. The event had a great turn out where guests enjoyed tremendous local musicians, food, beer and several wonderful auction items from concerned local businesses. Many community members in and around Glenshire expressed much passion regarding the protection of quality of life and ecosystem in the eastern Truckee/Nevada County region. They are ready to get involved in efforts toward ensuring the proposed Canyon Springs development project adequately addresses community priorities and concerns.

A sincere thanks to all of the wonderful community members and businesses coming together in an effort to help retain quality of life in the eastern Truckee/Nevada County region:

Our event contributors: The Glenshire/Devonshire Residents Association, Glenshire General Store, Mountain Area Preservation Foundation (MAPF). Our food and beverage contributors: Fifty Fifty Brewing Co., SaveMart, Truckee Sourdough Co. and Dave Ward. Our cooks: Sally Lyon and Marty Frantz. Our auctioneer: Lorna Tirman. The amazing Darlene Reide who sets up and decorates all of our events and#8212; we couldnand#8217;t do it without her.

Many talented local musicians came out to support our cause and were absolutely amazing: Norm Riede, Tamara Anderson, Paul Coverelli, Sheldon Felich, Tad Freese, Leigh Golden, Sean McMahon, Steve Pereira, Bud Worrel and Neil Pankler on the Pipes.

There are too many generous auction donors and volunteers to list. We sincerely thank you all for making the event such a great success.
