Volunteer to be a childrenand#8217;s helper at Living History Day

TAHOE, Calif. and#8212; Volunteers for Living History Day may sign up at Sugar Pine Point State Park Friday, July 16. The park particularly needs volunteers to supervise children playing historic games, making crafts and doing artwork.

Volunteers of all ages are requested, but there is a particular need for teenagers and adults to help with all the childrenand#8217;s activities.

Organizers of the event are looking for community members who are willing to attend one day of training and do some historical preparation about the lifestyle of the elite who built exclusive lakefront mansions in Lake Tahoe in the 1900s.

People of all ages are needed to wear costumes and play roles of the Ehrman family members, their guests and employees at Pine Lodge.

Volunteers need only work a short three and a half hour shift at the childrenand#8217;s zone and then they are able to enjoy the volunteer luncheon and all the rest of the free, living history day activities at the park.

The same is true for those who volunteer to help with the raffle and silent auction, the set up, food service, or mansion actors. In exchange for donating part of July 31 on a morning or afternoon shift, community members join the group of concerned citizens who are working to keep the state parks open to the public.

Volunteer orientation may be attended Friday, July 16 at 5 p.m. at the Sugar Pine Point State Park Nature Center. A second orientation will be held at the same location Saturday, July 24 at 9 a.m. Volunteers may attend either of these orientations. The actual event is always on the last Saturday in July, this year, July 31.
