TRUCKEE, Calif. — This week’s question: What does the Fourth of July mean to you?

Here are answers, as asked Tuesday in Truckee:

Robert Kleckner, retired, Kings Beach: “It’s our independence. I served my country, so it means a lot to me. I go down and watch the fireworks at the lake and watch the people celebrate.”

Isaac Fulwider, waiter, Truckee: “Aside from celebrating our independence … I think it’s a way to bring people together regardless of anything, really. It’s a way to realize the one thing that at least everybody has in common, and that’s pride in our country, one way or another.”

Serina Hays, barre instructor, Truckee: “I know it’s great independence for our country, but for me it’s more about family and friends, that’s what it means to me. It’s a good time to get together and enjoy what you have.”

Alanna Hughes, artist, Truckee: “It’s a time when I get together with friends and family, where we can just camp and enjoy the outdoors and be part of the community. We go down and watch the Fourth of July parade and we watch the fireworks on Donner Lake.”
