Zoe Thompson wins Rotary music contest

TAHOE CITY and#8212; On Tuesday, March 13, the Rotary Club of Tahoe City hosted its ninth annual high school Music Contest at Granlibakken Resort. Six musicians from North Tahoe High School competed. Dean Nordby, the North Tahoe High music director sent the talented group to the competition. The participants included Annie Thompson playing mallet percussion, Mark Heisinger playing trombone, Robin Foster playing clarinet, Ingrid Roske playing alto saxophone, Nicole Phelan playing alto saxophone and Zoe Thompson playing clarinet.

The competition resulted in a very close contest as judged by local adjudicators Randy Humphreys, Shauna Gilberti and Lena Meyer. Zoe Thompson took first place honors, Nicole Phelan placed second and Mark Heisinger placed third. Cash prizes were awarded to the top three finishers. All contestants received certificates of merit for their performances.

Thompson and Phelan, from the Tahoe City competition, will advance to the Rotary Area Contest on April 19 at the Parasol Building in Incline Village, Nev. at 6:30 p.m. They will compete with the top finishers from the Incline Village and Truckee Rotary competitions.

The winner of the Area Contest will advance to the Rotary District Championship John Ascuagaand#8217;s Nugget in Sparks, Nev. on May 19. The Rotary District 5190 now encompasses 56 Rotary clubs in Northeastern California and Northern Nevada.
