Orbitz picks Lake Tahoe as No. 1 ski destination

Those who’ve skied or snowboarded in the Lake Tahoe area have known this for years, but last month, travel booking giant Orbitz came to the same conclusion: Lake Tahoe is the No. 1 ski destination in the country.

Based on hotel and package sales, Lake Tahoe moved from the No. 3 spot last year to the top spot this year, as more and more people are flocking to the crown jewel of the Sierra Nevada.

With more than a dozen ski resorts located just in the Tahoe basin, the beauty and sport of the lake itself, gaming and world-class entertainers on the South Shore, Lake Tahoe offers something for every visitor.

One of the most unique features of the Lake Tahoe area as a ski destination is the proximity to Reno, and all the recreation options that city offers. In the midst of winter, skiers can spend the day on the slopes in some of the best snow around, then spend the next day on the golf course.

Reno is located at the base of the Sierra Nevada, and often when there are many feet of snow up on the hills, Reno is dry and temperate. This means skiers and golfers, and folks who love both, never have to choose when it comes to their vacation plans.
