Overeaters Anonymous launching North Lake Tahoe meeting

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. — Is food a problem for you? Compulsive overeaters are invited to a new weekly meeting of Overeaters Anonymous on Mondays in Incline Village.

Overeaters Anonymous is not a religious organization or a diet club. OA is a worldwide fellowship, with more than 7,000 meetings in approximately 80 countries. There are no dues, fees, or weigh-ins. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop eating compulsively.

Members of OA range from the morbidly obese to the anorexic and bulimic. These individuals experience many different symptoms, and have various difficulties with food. What they have in common is the admission that they were powerless over food and their lives had become unmanageable as a result.

OA members work together to recover from compulsive eating.

OA is a 12-step program, patterned after that of Alcoholics Anonymous. Participants work through the 12 steps with a sponsor. Weekly meetings offer group support and welcome anyone who might be in need of help. OA members maintain anonymity, which enables the group to offer unconditional acceptance and support for all.

Meetings take place Mondays from 6-7 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Church, located at 341 Village Blvd., Incline Village.
