Partly cloudy and mild today, cloudy and windy on Wednesday with chance of light rain or snow

A protective high pressure ridge will keep the Tahoe area under a dry and mild air mass today with light winds.
High temperatures are forecast to reach to lower to mid 50s this afternoon under partly cloudy skies with light southwest winds to 15 mph. Mostly cloudy skies overnight will keep minimum temperatures relatively mild with lows in the mid to upper 20s.
Look for increasing southwest winds 15 to 30 mph on Wednesday as the jet stream and associated frontal system drops south from the Pacific Northwest into Northern California.
This frontal system is forecast to bring light rain to the Tahoe area by Wednesday afternoon with the snow level near 6,500 feet. Cooler air behind the front is expected to bring the snow level down to lake level by evening with an inch or two of snow possible overnight.
No significant snow accumulations are anticipated on area highways with this weather system and travel should be relatively trouble free around the basin.
