Pipe bomb scare in Incline Village

Rick Adair, Sun News Service

INCLINE VILLAGE – A live pipe bomb was found Sunday morning about one mile south of Incline Village near the Hidden Beach area, according to a Washoe County Sheriff’s Office report.

The report says the bomb was a length of PVC pipe packed with black gunpowder, fused with detonation cord, and held together with black duct tape.

An unidentified male reported the bomb to officers at about 10:15 a.m. and led them to a rocky site where he’d moved it. The officers called in the Consolidated Bomb Squad after they determined the device could be explosive.

Sgt. Adam Hopkins of the Sheriff’s Office said the joint County-Reno-Sparks bomb squad arrived at about 1 p.m. and disabled the bomb. Squad personnel are now processing it for fingerprint evidence.

No suspects have been identified yet.
