Placer ready to dismiss commissioner

The Placer County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday will discuss dismissing Tahoe’s representative on the Planning Commission.

Planning Commissioner Michelle Ollar-Burris, who represents District 5, is under investigation for violating land-use law stipulated in the state Subdivision Map Act.

Placer County District 5 Supervisor Bruce Kranz said he waited to see if she would resign before taking the matter into his own hands.

“I’m not predetermining guilt or innocence, but the county can’t afford to have this controversy.” Kranz said in a phone interview Thursday. “We have too much work to do around here.”

The dismissal is on the agenda for Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting in Auburn. Kranz said he would make the motion to approve her removal.

The board will be accepting applications for her replacement over a 20-day period.

Since North Shore resident Larry Sevinson represents the lake on the planning commission, Kranz said he is looking for someone outside of the basin to represent the western portion of the district, which encompasses Lake Tahoe through Royal Gorge, Dutch Flat and up to North Auburn.

Sevinson is an at-large commissioner appointed county-wide by all five supervisors. Ollar-Burris, an Auburn real estate agent, was the district 5 representative and was appointed solely by Kranz.

“Larry is very familiar with everything up there,” Kranz said. “He represents that community very well.”
