Placer set too distribute Basin building permits

Placer County will receive 50 residential building permit allocations for 2007 from the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency. Those permit allocations will be distributed by a modified lottery next month if more applicants exist than allocations.

Housing allocations determine the number of homes that can be built per year on vacant lots in all five jurisdictions in the Tahoe Basin. Placer County uses a lottery system to hand out its allotted allocations, which allows residents to start the process of building a home. If the allocation is not used in the year it is given it is lost and doesn’t roll over into the next year.

How many allocations each jurisdiction receives is based on progress in four environmental improvement areas, including environmental improvement project implementation, transit, level of service ” permit review performance, and installation of best management practices.

Placer County’s application enrollment period will be from Jan. 2 at 8 a.m. through Jan. 8 at 5 p.m. Building permit applications must be submitted to the Placer County Building Department, 565 West Lake Blvd., Tahoe City. All applications must include plans for a buildable site.

If the number of applications is greater than the 50 available, a drawing will be held Jan. 16 to distribute the allocations at 10 a.m. at the Tahoe City Public Utility District board room, 221 Fairway Drive, Tahoe City.

For questions on the allocation process or applications, call the Placer County Building Department at 581-6200.
