Plane crash in Truckee Sunday, occupants unharmed

TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; The pilot and passenger of an airplane that crashed near Truckee Tahoe Airport walked away uninjured Sunday evening.

The single-engine turbo prop TBM 850 was on approach to land at Truckee Tahoe Airport when the pilot encountered problems handling the aircraft, and went down in the Joerger Ranch property south of the Highway 267 overpass in several feet of snow Sunday, Dec. 13 at about 5:30 p.m.

The pilot and passenger, both from San Francisco, walked away from the crash. Truckee Police were unable to release their identities, said Captain Randy Fenn.

The crash investigation is being turned over to the National Transportation Safety Board, he said.

Kevin Bumen, director of aviation and public relations at the airport, said the runways were open and plowed, but visibility was limited.

and#8220;Once we get the facilities plowed and open itand#8217;s up to the pilot,and#8221; Bumen said.
