Police investigating bomb threat in Truckee

TRUCKEE “- Truckee police are investigating a suspect who called in a bomb threat to the Safeway in Truckee Tuesday evening.

The call, which shut down the grocery store for hours Tuesday night, prompted an evacuation of employees and shoppers and a number of police to respond. Nobody was inured, and nothing blew up.

“This type of thing is very costly, very inconvenient to many and it’s a felony crime in the state of California,” Truckee Police Lt. Harwood Mitchell said.

According to Lt. Mitchell, at 5:20 p.m., an individual phoned in a bomb threat to the main Safeway Line, and promised it to explode in 20 minutes. That time had long passed by the time the police met with the store manager later that evening. No other authorities were called in to assist.

The suspect was unknown as of press time. Visit http://www.sierrasun.com/bombthreat for the latest.
