Police: no child abduction attempt in Truckee

An e-mail circulating around Truckee Friday morning about a child abduction attempt in Tahoe Donner is untrue, according to Truckee police.

A Truckee girl had believed a man was trying to kidnap her while she was walking in her neighborhood Friday morning before school, and her father alerted police, said Truckee police Sgt. Jason Litchie.

“The little girl did everything right,” Litchie said. “She ran home, told her father, and he called us.”

After some investigation, Truckee police determined that the perceived abduction attempt was a misunderstanding.

“If there was an apparent abduction, there would be a lot more notification going on,” Litchie said. “We wouldn’t be keeping people in the dark.”

In the case of a possible abduction, Truckee police would alert all local schools, post officers at school bus stations, alert the media, and post information to the Truckee Police Department Web site, he said.
