Police officers form association
When officers of the Truckee Police Department formed their own association, they did it to better serve the community.
“We want to continue what the town has done with Nevada County Sheriff’s Office,” said Claudio Gasbarri, the new president of the Truckee Police Officers Association. Gasbarri is also an officer with the Truckee Police Department and former deputy with the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office.
“In the 10 years I’ve been in law enforcement in Truckee, the town has always been very supportive.”
Gasbarri said NCSO deputies had a similar association that volunteered throughout the community and helped to raise funds for various community groups.
Currently all the members of the association are participating in a blood and marrow drive for 4-year-old Zachary Hanham.
Gasbarri said the association also plans to participate in Safe Streets, in which officers man crossings and pass out candy on Halloween in the Gateway area in Truckee.
This year, Safe Streets will be a joint venture between the CHP, NCSO and Truckee Police Department.
The association is part of the larger Peace Officers Research Association of California, which seeks to provide additional education and training for peace officers while also protecting their rights and providing legal assistance.
Gasbarri said the Truckee Police Officer’s Association is currently raising funds for a chuck wagon that would enable them to sell food and drinks at Pop Warner football games and at the soccer fields.
Proceeds from the sales would go back to the leagues.
“It’s a way for us to get involved in the community,” Gasbarri said. “We are going to do a lot for the community.”
