Police say no assault at elementary school

The Tahoe Truckee Unified School District informed parents Monday that investigators concluded no student was assaulted last week at Truckee Elementary School.

Parents received an automated phone message from Truckee Elementary Principal Cathy Valle Monday evening, reporting the latest findings by the Truckee Police Department into an incident last week that was initially suspected to be an assault.

According to Valle’s phone message, Truckee Police investigators, after conferring with medical experts, concluded that no physical assault occurred.

Valle told parents in the automated call that the police department has closed its investigation.

In a news release Friday, Truckee Police Lt. Harwood Mitchell said personnel at Tahoe Forest Hospital contacted police on Wednesday about a female student who had sustained injuries while at school prompting a police investigation.

Hospital staff had called the injuries “suspicious.”

On Tuesday, calls to Truckee Police for comment were not returned.
