Prep roundup: Wolverines dominate Railroaders

The Truckee volleyball team opened play in the Class 3A Northern – West League with a win Wednesday night, topping Sparks in straight sets.

After some early-season struggles in tournaments and against larger schools, the Wolverines made quick work of the Railroaders, winning 25-9, 25-6, 25-16.

Truckee (4-9, 1-0 Northern – West League) will hit the road Friday for a league matchup against Hug (1-9, 0-1 Northern – West League).



In Class 2A play, North Tahoe is coming off Tuesday’s 3-2 home win against Truckee. Junior Alana Hendricks led the way for the Lakers with 12 kills and 16 digs. Junior Miya Casci had eight kills and a team-high 20 assists. Senior Anja Lund led the team with five aces and had 15 digs.

North Tahoe (12-5, 2-1 Northern League) will play at home Friday against league opponent Silver Stage (2-7, 1-2 Northern League). Lakers then travel to play Yerington the following day.



Soccer: Lady Lakers extend streak to four

In Class 3A girls’ soccer, Truckee evened its record at 3-3 after taking a 5-1 win at home against Dayton.

Following a Thursday league opener at home against Sparks, the Wolverines will travel to play Hug on Saturday, before a Tuesday matchup at rivals South Tahoe.

In Class 2A play, North Tahoe extended its streak of shutout wins to four following Wednesday’s 7-0 win at Incline.

Junior Keadle Verkler had two goals and two assists. Junior Ginny Gibeaut had two goals. Junior Bergen Garrity had three assists and a goal. Sophomore Scout Mitchell and freshman Belinda Little each netted a goal. Junior Alexandra Servin had two assists.

The Lakers have won their last four games by a combined score of 29-0.

North Tahoe (6-3, 4-0 Northern League) will face league opponents West Wendover (0-6, 0-4 Northern League) on Friday.

In Class 3A boys’ soccer, Truckee remained unbeaten after taking a 9-0 win at Dayton.

Truckee (4-0, 1-0 Northern – West League) will traveled to play Reno (4-1, 0-0 Northern – West League) in a league matchup on Thursday. The Wolverines return home on Saturday to face Bishop Manogue in another league contest.

In Class 2A play, North Tahoe and Incline played to a 2-2 tie on Wednesday. North Tahoe (2-3-1, 0-0-1 Northern League) will face West Wendover (8-2-1, 2-0 Northern League) at home on Friday. Incline (1-2-1, 1-0-1 Northern League) will travel Friday to play Whittell (0-2, 0-1 Northern League).
