Prescribed burn on Boca Hill

The U.S. Forest Service started a prescribed under burn on Boca Hill to the east of Prosser Lake today at 10 a.m.

Covering roughly 70 acres, the burn is intended to reduce fuels that pose a fire hazard, said Linda Ferguson with fire prevention at the Tahoe Ranger District.

“It’s also for our fire-dependant ecosystem,” Ferguson said.

Two engines and roughly 25 personnel should complete the burn today, but smoke may continue for the next few days, she said.
