Prescribed fires scheduled Tuesday at Lake Tahoe

LAKE TAHOE — U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews are scheduled to begin prescribed fires Tuesday off Highway 89 South near Luther Pass, officials said Monday.

Crews will begin burning a 29-acre unit across the highway from the Luther Pass overflow campground and will burn as much as weather and conditions allow through the week, according to a USFS press release.

Crews also will burn about 2 acres on a small unit between Secret and Skunk harbors near Bliss Pond off Highway 28 on the East Shore, on the east side of the highway. Operations here are expected to last through Tuesday.

Smoke may be visible on Highways 89 and 28. Smoke-sensitive residents should consider staying indoors and keeping doors, windows and outside vents closed.
