Propane leak closes Donner Ski Ranch

The Associated Press

TRUCKEE, Calif. ” A Sierra ski area has been shut down and evacuated after a leak was discovered in a 6,000-gallon propane tank.

A Truckee Fire Protection District official says Donner Ski Ranch and the Peninsula Ski Club will be closed at least through Tuesday while crews try to pinpoint the leak and make repairs.

Officials say the tank also supplies propane to heat nearby condominiums, and power has been shut off to the complex.

Fire district spokesman Gene Welch says crews will have to dig out the tank which is covered in ice.
