Public comment closes today on rec center

Today is the last day to comment on the Truckee-Donner Recreation and Park Districts proposed community center environmental report.Truckee-Donner Recreation & Park District submitted the draft mitigated negative declaration with a 30-day period of review June 5 and ending today. The declaration document is allowable when an initial study of a project finds that no significant environmental effects will occur because measures will be taken to reduce any impacts.The 100,546-square-foot proposed recreation center project will sit on the 13.5-acre triangular lot at the intersection of Interstate 80, Highway 89 north, and Donner Pass Road.Steve Randall, park district general manager, said public comments should be in written form. Comments can be dropped off at the park district office located at 10046 Church St., Truckee.However, the deadline for town comment on the document has been extended until Aug. 10. Randall said the extension was allowed in order to allow the town more time to edit the draft.
