Rahlves wins Winter X skiercross

Truckee’s Daron Rahlves won Sunday’s Winter X Games men’s skiercross final, besting Canadian Stanley Hayer in second place and Casey Puckett, who captured the bronze.

Rookie Errol Kerr, also of Truckee, finished fifth in the skiercross final, while Michael Schmid of Switzerland was fourth and Tomas Kraus from the Czech Republic sixth.

Skiercross pits skiers in head-to-head competition, in heats of six, racing over tabletop jumps, banked turns, rollers and gaps.

Rahlves, a three-time Olympian and most accomplished speed skier in U.S. history, pulled into the lead early in the race and held on for the win after soaring over the final two booters on the course.
