Ready, set, go! WonderGirl 5K Halloween run open to community

Emma Garrard/Sierra SunClaire Lang-Ree gets her race number pinned on before the start of the Wondergirl 5K last year.

Community members are invited to join the Girls on the Run WonderGirl 5K Halloween Fun Run fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 25. The Girls on the Run program, started locally by Jennifer Bossin, encourages healthy lifestyles and promotes self esteem and strong values for girls ages 8 through 12. The program uses health education, life skills development, mentoring relationships and physical training all supported by an active collaboration with girls and their parents, schools, volunteers, staff, and the community.

The WonderGirl 5K Halloween Fun Run includes a raffle and finish line family festival. Food, drinks, games, music and more fun activities for the entire family are part of the day, to be held at the Riverview Sports Park, 12200 Joerger Drive in Truckee. Hosted by Truckee Donner Recreation and Parks Department, the event opens at 9 a.m. for registration, with the race at 10 a.m. Cost is $20 per person, onsite, the day of event.

Local sponsors are Burger Me, Terry Hurt Interior Design, Tahoe Forest Health System, Clever Minds, Truckee Airport, MWA Architects. For information, please contact Jennifer Bossin at 587-1690 or email
