Red Flag Warning called today

The National Weather Service cited dry weather and gusty winds in declaring a red flag warning from noon to 10 p.m. today for the greater Lake Tahoe area.

A Lake Wind Advisory is also in effect for Lake Tahoe.

Low pressure near the Northern California Coast will produce gusty winds over the region. Southwest winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 35 mph will develop by early afternoon.

Gusts over the northern Sierra ridges will reach 50 mph.

In addition, relative humidity will lower to near 15 percent this afternoon. Winds will diminish this evening with increasing humidity.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions will occur.

A lake wind advisory will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 8 this evening. Small boats will be prone to capsizing and should remain off lake waters until conditions improve this evening.
