Registration deadline looms for California election

TRUCKEE/TAHOE ” Monday is the last day to register to vote in California’s upcoming special election.

According to the Secretary of State, voter registration forms must be sent 15 days before the May 19 statewide election. That means the forms have to be postmarked or submitted to county election officials Monday.

The Department of Motor Vehicles will also accept registration forms.



Californians are being asked to weigh six budget-related measures negotiated by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and legislative leaders. They include provisions to impose a spending cap while extending temporary taxes, authorize more borrowing and cut officials’ pay in deficit years.

Monday is also the last day to report a change of address.
