Relay for Life seeking volunteers
The American Cancer Society is looking for volunteers and teams for the first ever 24-hour Relay for Life of Truckee to be held at the Truckee High School track and softball fields July 28-29 from 9 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Relay for Life is a fun-filled, overnight event that mobilizes communities throughout the country to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones and raise money for the fight against cancer.
All survivors are invited to participate in the opening ceremony Survivor Lap at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 28. Saturday evening luminaria bags will light the way after dusk to honor those whose lives have been touched by cancer. For a donation of $15, participants can have the name of someone who has battled cancer, as a survivor or in memory of, on a luminaria bag.
Teams of eight to 24 members gather with tents and sleeping bags to participate in the largest fundraising walk in the nation. Teams seek sponsorship prior to the Relay, all with the goal of eliminating cancer. Rules of engagement are that each team has at least one member on the track during the 24 hours.
To volunteer to be on the committee, put together a team, join a team, participate in the survivor lap during opening ceremonies, become a sponsor or provide entertainment or food, contact Ruth Geresy at 587-8808 or email@example.com.
